Indigenous HIV/AIDS Research Training Program
The Indigenous HIV/AIDS Research Training (IHART) program is an innovative research training program for Indigenous and other underrepresented ethnic minority scholars. The IHART program aims to develop a network of scholars dedicated to culturally grounded research that will contribute to ameliorating health disparities among American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/AN).
The Indigenous HART program
- Focuses on American Indian/Alaska Native HIV and mental health research in Indian Country
- Cultivates the research proficiency of junior and mid-career level scholars
- Nurtures the grant making skills of AI/AN tribal, community, and university-based scholars
- Incorporates culturally specific Native epistemologies, methodologies, and research protocols
- Offers a co-creative, reciprocal and collaborative educational program
The Indigenous HIV/AIDS Research Training program is housed in the University of Washington’s Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, a multidisciplinary center for AI/AN health disparities research with faculty in the Schools of Social Work and Public Health, and affiliated faculty in Psychology, Law, Medicine, and Nursing.
