Application Materials
- Cover Letter (2 pages maximum)
- Research Concept and Proposed Use of Funds (2 pages maximum)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Director or Supervisor Support Form
- Contact Information for References
Step 1: Cover Letter:Describe your research interests, past research activities, experience in conducting research with American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) and/or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (NHPI) communities and your personal involvement in AI/AN or NHPI communities. The cover letter should be no more than two, single-spaced pages in 11- or 12-point font.
Step 2: Research Concept and Proposed Use of Funds: Include specific ideas about your pilot study and how you plan to use the $20,000 seed money provided by an IHART2 fellowship. Seed funds are designated for a pilot study that will allow fellows to gather preliminary data for a RO1 submission; academic time buy-out; funds for HIV-related conferences; and/or on-site meetings with mentors. Because the IHART2 program covers travel and housing for winter and summer training institutes, and visits to assigned mentor’s research site, as well as statistical, editorial, and behavioral science expertise for pilot projects, grant writing, and manuscript submissions, funds for these purposes need not come out of the $20,000 fellowship. The Research Concept and Proposed Use of Funds should be no more than 2 single-spaced pages, using 11- or 12-point font.
Step 3: Curriculum Vitae: The curriculum vitae should include at least the following sections: name and mailing address, education with degree and dates of completion, relevant employment, honors and awards (including grant awards), professional affiliations and licensures, research and evaluation experience, teaching experience, publications, presentations at conferences, continuing education, as well as other experience and expertise you would like to highlight. Community-based scholars and others are encouraged to include non-traditional experience that contributes to their pilot project. Applicants may choose to submit an optional biosketch.
Step 4: Director or Supervisor Support Form: Complete and submit the signed form confirming the support of one (1) of the following for both your participation in the IHART program and your pursuit of RO1 funding for HIV/AIDS related research. The form can be signed by a direct supervisor, academic dean or department chair.
Step 5: Contact Information for References: Identify and provide contact information for two (2) researchers and one (1) AI/AN/NHPI leader, or existing or prospective AI/AN community partner who would be willing to provide letters of support if asked. Please do not send letters at this time.
