Announcing Indigenous HIV/AIDS Research Training Program 2 (IHART2) Fellows

The first cohort of IHART2 Fellows began their two-year training program in March 2016. Four fellows have been selected to participate in the new grant cycle which has expanded to include Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders, as well as postdoctoral and junior scholars in the training program.

After a successful recruitment period during the fall and winter of 2015/2016, the IHART2 Administrative Core, under the direction of Karina Walters, PhD and Bonnie Duran, DrPH (principal co-directors), interviewed and selected the four finalists listed below. They began their training with a video-chat orientation on March 15, and a weeklong writing retreat in Waimea, HI, from April 4-8.

IHART2 is the second iteration of the Indigenous HIV/AIDS Research Training (IHART) program. It is an innovative research training program for Indigenous, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (NHPI) and other underrepresented ethnic minority scholars. The program aims to develop a network of scholars dedicated to culturally-grounded research that will contribute to ameliorating health disparities among American Indians/Alaska Natives and the historically underserved HIV/AIDS population of NHPI. It is funded by a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health Grant under award #2R25MH084565.
