Biography
Magaly Blas studied Medicine at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), and finished her MPH and PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Washington (UW). Dr. Blas has conducted research studies about the epidemiology of HIV, HPV, HTLV, and other Sexually Transmitted Infections in different populations. She has also conducted research on the use of ICT for HIV prevention and to improve maternal and child health.
Dr. Blas is an Associate Professor at UPCH and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the Department of Global Health at the UW. She is the Director of Mamás del Río, a Program to improve maternal and newborn health in rural areas in the Peruvian Amazon. She has been a Rockefeller-Penn Fellow and a Fogarty Research Fellow of the U.S. NIH. Dr. Magaly was nominated a New Investigator in Global Health by the Global Health Council. She is also recipient of the 2016 Elsevier Foundation Award for early career women scientists, the 2016 L’Oreal-UNESCO Concytec Award for Peruvian women scientists, the 2016 Award for Good Practices in Public Administration, the 2018 Women in Innovation Award from UPCH and the 2018 Eisenhower Fellowship.
