IHART2 Call for Applications

The Indigenous Wellness Research Institute National Center of Excellence, School of Social Work, University of Washington, is pleased to issue a call for eligible applicants for the 2018 cohort of the Indigenous HIV/AIDS Research Training Program 2 (IHART2). The IHART2 program is seeking a diverse pool of qualified academic and community research applicants interested in developing a fundable research study addressing the mental health concerns and HIV prevention needs of Native Americans.
Eligible applicants have a PhD or MD in a field that supports the candidate’s research interests, and self-identifies as an American Indian, Alaska Native, First Nation, Inuit, Metis, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander, or as an Indigenous person from the U.S. or U.S. territories or North America, including Canada or Mexico; OR self-identifies as belonging to a socioeconomic or rural background or racial/ethnic group that is underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research AND currently conducts or is committed to conducting research with Native communities; OR be a non-Native, non-UREM individual who currently conducts health-related research with AIAN communities;
The IHART2 program offers individual mentorship, scientific and cultural/tribal consultation, and research and grant development training. Up to five fellows will be selected for a 24-month-long training program beginning with an orientation in February or March 2018. Each fellow, a junior or mid-career professional, is paired with an experienced senior scientist who will collaborate with him or her to plan a pilot study and provide additional research- and grant-related mentoring. Recipients of an IHART award may receive pilot project development seed funding of up to $20,000.
