Scarlett Hopkins, RN, MA is the Community Engagement & Clinical Support Core Director at the Center for Alaska Native Health research, and is a Research Associate for the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is a Registered Nurse and received her Master’s Degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Working within a community-based participatory research framework, she has been involved in all phases of community engagement with Yup’ik people. Her research interest is in community-based lifestyle interventions to improve the health of Yup’ik women. Her expertise includes the development of culturally appropriate research protocols and instruments, and the development of culturally appropriate and compliant IRB protocols. Scarlett Hopkins has actively been involved with both qualitative and quantitative data collection efforts and has used her clinical expertise to oversee and collect biological specimens and other clinical measurements for study participants. She coordinates the return of clinically actionable findings to participants completing center studies and to health care providers and the dissemination of culturally relevant research findings to communities, tribal entities, and the Native Health Corporation.
