IHART 2: Program Overview

The IHART² program will provide a 24-month HIV/AIDS mentoring program to 15 (3-5 per year) qualified postdoctoral through mid-career scholars primarily from Indigenous populations (AIAN, NHPI, and Latino Indigenous) as well as UREM or non-Native scholars from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are currently conducting research with AIAN and NHPI populations.

Program Benefits

By the end of the 24 month program, Fellows will have designed and implemented a funded pilot study, published HIV/AIDS-related articles; submitted and presented HIV-related conference abstracts to national conferences; and developed or submitted a NIH HIV-related grant proposal.

Participants will have access to:

(a) Spring Writing Retreat (2); Winter/Spring Research Roundtable (2); Summer Research Institute (2); grant writing workshop(1)

(b) Additional training opportunities (webinars; 4 quarterly seminars; on-site mentor shadowing opportunities; and support for attendance to HIV/AIDS training institutes);

(c) Technical assistance (peer review for grant design, development, and submission; and statistical, editorial, and technical assistance for developing grant applications and writing manuscripts for publication);

(d) Seed funding ($20,000 to conduct pilot studies, travel to conferences, or to buy out time); and

(e) Networking opportunities and development.
